Reducing Isolation & Building Connections

Experiencing displacement, hardship or major life changes can leave people feeling isolated and disconnected from the communities around them. Migrants and refugees may also face language barriers, unfamiliar surroundings and the loss of established family or social networks, making it harder to develop a sense of belonging.

Our Reducing Isolation & Building Connections programme creates welcoming spaces where people can come together, share experiences, build relationships and develop stronger support networks.

Through regular support groups, community gatherings, workshops and online meetings, we bring together people who may have experienced similar challenges. These activities give participants opportunities to meet others, form friendships, exchange experiences and feel part of a supportive community.

We place particular emphasis on supporting migrants and refugees who have experienced hardship and may have limited social networks in the UK. Our groups are designed to provide a safe and inclusive environment where participants feel listened to, valued and able to connect with others at their own pace.

Alongside face-to-face activities, we hold more than 60 online community meetings each year, helping people stay connected when attending in person may be difficult. These meetings provide another space for participants to maintain relationships, share information and remain involved in their wider community.

Our aim is to reduce loneliness and social isolation while strengthening confidence, belonging, resilience and community participation. By helping people develop meaningful relationships and stronger support networks, we aim to support their longer-term wellbeing and help them feel more connected to life in the UK.

We listen to participant feedback and monitor engagement so that our activities continue to reflect the needs and experiences of the communities we support.
