International Liberty Association: Prisoner of Conscience Saba Kord Afshari was violently moved out of Ward 8 of Qarchak Prison on Tuesday, 26 January, and taken to Ward 6 where ordinary prisoners are held.
An informed source said: In a bid to terrorize inmates in Ward 8, male and female prison guards entered Ward 8 while hitting their batons and stun guns on the doors and walls. They intimidated the prisoners and said Saba Kord Afshari must move out of that ward. Ms. Kord Afshari was taking fresh air at the time. So they took her by the hair and dragged her on the floor.

They tied her arms in the back and beat her as they were taking her out of the ward. Now, she is being held in ward 6 with prisoners who are accused of common and violent crimes.

Prisoner of Conscience, Saba Kord Afshari had been previously attacked on 13 December 13, when prison guards raided Ward 8 and brutalized all inmates. They took away Golrokh Iraee and sent her to Evin Prison to undergo interrogations by the IRGC Intelligence. Ms. Kord Afshari was badly hurt in the back and her shoulders and waist were bruised. She was also hurt in the teeth.

On 26 December 2020, Maryam Ebrahimvand, also a prisoner of conscience in Ward 8, was forcibly moved to the mothers’ ward.

ILA: Saba Kord Afshari who was arrested for a second time in June 2020, is sentenced to 15 years in prison for “promoting prostitution and corruption through removing her veil and walking in the street without covering her hair.” She is sentenced to another 1.5 years for “propaganda against the state” and 7.5 years for “assembly and collusion against national security.”
Her mother, Raheleh Ahamdi is also serving a 31 month sentence since February 2020 in the women’s ward of Evin Prison.
