papal-legateThe papal legate and the Secretary of the conferences in the Marche region of Italy issued a statement about the necessity of prosecuting the perpetrators of #1988massacre. The statement reads:
“In recent weeks, the days coincide with the intensification of the arbitrary executions in Iran and at the same time, the new details about the Massacre of 30 thousand activists in 1988 have been disclosed and it has given the Iranians a shock.

The released audio file of Ayatollah Montazeri, the Khomeini’s successor in a meeting with 4 judicial and intelligence officials discloses the shocking facts of the Massacre which is the second greatest massacre of the political prisoners after the World War II.

One of the 4 people, who were called as the Death Committee by the prisoners, is the current Minister of Justice, Mostafa Pourmohammadi; the second person is the current president of the court of judges and the third one was the former Attorney-General of Iran as well.

The former Deputy Minister of Information in Iran’s regime acknowledged that 33700 people were executed in #1988massacre.This massacre was carried out with Khomeini’s Fatwa in July 1988.

Many of those executed have been sentenced to imprisonment previously and they have been serving their time or have already served. Lots of those executed were the prisoners who were to be released or they were the family members of the people of Mujahedin that Khomeini ordered to arrest them. In Tehran and provincial capitals and many cities (a total of more than 70 cities) the death delegations were formed.”

The young Archbishop in his statement referred to the international human rights organizations that have declared #1988massacre as a crime against the humanity. As he asserts:
“Silence against such terrible massacre and the impunity of the perpetrators, in fact, encourages them to continue their crime. These perpetrators currently own the highest political, security and judicial positions in the country.

At first, I ask the Italian government to condemn #1988Massacre strongly and to put condition in its relation with Iran to halting the executions.

Secondly, I ask the High Commissioner for Human Rights Council, the UN General Assembly, and the Security Council to investigate these awful crimes and to bring the perpetrators and instigators of the Massacre to trial.”

The Mayor of Urbino, Italy also issued a statement, referring to the release of the audio file that emphasizes on the complicity of the current officials of the clerical regime in the massacre and the killing of 30 thousand activists in 1988.The statement reads:
“#1988massacre was carried out with Khomeini’s Fatwa. In his Fatwa, he said that all those prisoners across the country who continue to support the People of Mujahedin will be condemned to death penalty.”

The Mayor of Urbino in his statement reiterated that the deafening silence against #1988massacre and the impunity of the perpetrators raise the continuation of such crimes.

The Mayor has asked the Italian government to condemn the horrible Massacre of 1988 and to halt its relation with Iran unless they stop the executions. He also asked the UN and the Security Council to investigate #1988massacre and to bring the perpetrators of the crime to trial.

Abolish death penalty in Iran

Please Sign our Petition

Dear Secretary General of United Nations,

The number of executions is rising in Iran, journalists are being detained for doing their job and activists face cruel and degrading punishments, long prison terms and even execution. According to the most recent reports by Amnesty International and the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child, “Iran’s judiciary continues to sentence child offenders to death, and carry out their execution by hanging”. Also, on August 9th, 2016 the son of late Ayatollah Hossein Ali Montazeri, Khomeini’s designated successor in 1988, published a shocking audio tape of his father’s meeting with the “Death Commission” which summarily and extra-judicially executed tens of thousands of political prisoners held in jails across Iran. The massacre was carried out on the basis of a fatwa by the regime’s then-Supreme Leader Khomeini.

We, the undersigned, hereby urge you to take up this issue and raise it in the General Assembly in order to;

1. Put pressure on Iran to immediately halt the executions and abolish death penalty in Iran.
2. Call on all Western governments to make any improvement in economic relations with Iran contingent on its human rights record.
3. Demand in its resolution on human rights violations in Iran, to bring the perpetrators of 1988 massacre (one of the worst atrocities the post-war world has ever seen – Geoffrey Robertson-QC) to justice before an international tribunal.

Executions must stop.
