Execution of 11 prisoners simultaneous with teachers’ protests in TehranPublished by International Liberty on July 26, 2015
On Wednesday 22 July, the Iranian regime collectively hanged 10 prisoners in Gohardasht (Rajai Shahr) Prison near Karaj. Another prisoner was hanged on the same day in Esfahan Prison.
These heinous executions were committed concurrent with the protest gathering of Iranian educators who were demanding freedom for imprisoned teachers as well as respect for their trampled rights.
Faced with escalating popular discontent and unable to see to the rightful demands of the majority of the Iranian people who are living under the poverty line, the ruling religious fascists, dubbed the godfather of ISIS by the Iranian people, are constantly ramping up suppression.
In its statement on 23 Jul, Amnesty International referred to the shocking figure of 700 executions in just six months and wrote: “Iran’s staggering execution toll for the first half of this year paints a sinister picture of the machinery of state carrying out premeditated judicially-sanctioned killing on a mass scale.”
The international community must adopt a firm policy vis-à-vis the Iranian regime.
