Environmental activist Faranak Jamshidi detention order extended for the third time

International Liberty Association: The judicial authorities in the city of Sanandaj extended the detention order for the environmental activist Faranak Jamshidi for a third time, on 28 September 2020.
Ms. Jamshidi is presently detained in the Prison of Sanandaj, the capital of Kurdistan Province.

Agents of the Intelligence Department of Sanandaj arrested and detained Faranak Jamshidi on 28 June 2020.

She had been previously summoned and interrogated during a wave of arrests of environmental activists in autumn 2018.

Previously, ILA had reported about a group five active environmentalist who were arrested in January 2018, and were issued preliminary indictments, and were charged with “Corruption on earth”.

The lawyer of a number of the detained environmentalists, Hossein Aghasi, in an interview said that although his clients were initially charged with espionage, Tehran’s Prosecutor changed the charges to “corruption on earth.”

The environmentalists were arrested on 24 and 25 January, 2018, by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ (IRGC) Intelligence Organization, and are still in prison.
