British-Iranian’s message from Evin prison to Boris Johnson: Corona’s threat here is more than ever

International Liberty Association: Anousheh Ashouri, an Iranian-British dual-national prisoner, sent an audio message from inside Evin Prison to British Prime Minister Boris Johnson asking for help.

AFP reported on Monday that the phone call had been recorded by his wife in London and given to the news agency.

“We are desperate and need your help”, Mr Ashouri told Boris Johnson.

“I urge you to take action and get me and other British citizens out of Evin Prison, because the threat of Covid 19 in this prison is greater than ever”, he said.

Anousheh Ashouri went to Tehran in August 2017 to visit her mother and was arrested at that time. The engineer, who represented a technology company in Britain, was charged with “spying for Israel” and sentenced to ten years in prison.

“My fear is that the British government will forget us”, Mr Ashouri said in a statement.

Mr. Ashouri’s wife, Shari Izadi, called the charges against him “shameless” and said his trial lasted only an hour.

ILA: She told AFP that Anousheh Ashouri, the father of two, has never been involved in politics and emphasizes that “we are ordinary, completely unimportant people”.
