Anti-regime protests in west Iran continue despite crackdownPublished by International Liberty on May 12, 2015
Despite the repressive measures of the Iranian regime in the city of Mahabad, new clashes between young people in different parts of the city and security forces occurred.
The people of Sardasht, an adjacent city in Iranian Kurdistan, also demonstrated in solidarity with the people of Mahabad, chanting “We are all Farinaz” and “Mahabad is not alone”. The suppressive forces tried to disperse the crowd by throwing tear gas, beating with batons and shooting with live bullets. According to reports one of the demonstrators was shot and wounded, 20 others were arrested. Clashes are also being reported in the cities of Marivan and Khoy.
